Department of Mathematics
Overview:-

In the rapid technologies advances there is a strong demand for the professional who could lead in the emerging disciplines. The need for improved development in
high-end technology areas as well as in industrial research and development work,
therefore, can hardly be over-emphasized. Thus, the importance of Natural Sciences,
in general, and Mathematical Sciences, in particular, cannot be over looked in the
present age of 21st century. One of the main factors associated with this, is the
use of IT based techniques in teaching and research in these disciplines. On the
other hand Mathematical sciences, particularly, the subject of Mathematics is the
backbone of new emerging Sciences including computer science, Information technology,
Computer Engineering and Biotechnology. At present, the Department of Mathematics
at CIIT, Lahore Campus provides the facilities to teach the courses in Mathematics
offered in various programs including Computer Science, Management Sciences, Electrical
Engineering and Chemical Engineering. In future the Department aims to pursue excellence
in Mathematics by offering BS (Math) four years and MS leading to Ph.D programs
through teaching and research by developing appropriate curricula and teaching practices,
acquiring talented faculty members and providing an endowment conducive to teaching
and learning of quantitative skills. The Department endeavors to educate its students
by providing them exposure to real-life problems, and including in them problem
solving approaches. They are encouraged to explore, solve problems, break new grounds,
and cultivate leadership qualities.

Brief Introduction of Programs:-
MS (Mathematics)
Mathematics is one of the oldest academic subjects and is still very much alive and growing very fast. It is considered to be very important in the learning and understanding of Science subjects in particular and other subjects in general. The advent of computers and data acquisition facilities has stretched the limits of what is possible in Mathematics to all branches of human endeavor. New developments are taking place all the time; some as result of fresh ideas or review of old techniques and problems from a fresh standpoint and others, prompted by the applications to new and emerging physical, biological and social sciences, economics, computing and so on. This has given rise to new IT based techniques of mathematical study and has created new computational methodologies. Mathematics is one of the most mature and well developed disciplines of the basic sciences. The study of mathematics is not only exciting, but important Mathematicians have an opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the society by helping to solve problems in such diverse fields as medicine, biology, management, economics, computer sciences, physics, psychology, engineering and social sciences.
