Dual Degree Programme: Software Engineering
Introduction:-
The department of Computer Science, CIIT Lahore has found wide-spread appreciation and popularity in local and international markets through its existing undergraduate BS (CS) and MS/PhD programs. BS (SE) dual degree program is another step towards imparting quality education to students in Pakistan. The objective of this dual degree programme is to provide students in Pakistan an access to high quality technical education of international standards at the lowest possible cost and enable them to meet today’s and future market challenges. The program is offered as dual degree in collaboration with Lancaster University of UK and it will ensure international quality standards set by allied partner University.
Software Engineering discipline focuses on imparting the practical knowledge and technical training that enables students to harmonize theory with practice, concepts with applications, and problems with solutions. Software Engineering graduates will have grounding in communication, mathematics, sciences, cultural, ethical, and social issues that influence and affect to the development of high quality software systems. The Programme will prepare professionals having skills and mastery in software development principles, theory, practice, and process to develop high quality software applications.
The Dual Degrees:
On completion students will be awarded with two degrees:
- Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering from Lancaster University
- BS Software Engineering from CIIT with transcript
Degree Accreditation: BSCS Programme of the CIIT Lahore has been awarded best category ‘W’ by National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) of Pakistan. BSSE Program will also be accredited by NCEAC. Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering is accredited by the Institute of Engineering and Technology, UK.
Vision:
Software engineering is the discipline which involves the application of engineering concepts, techniques, and methods to the design, development, deployment and maintenance of software systems. Software engineering programme will prepare professionals who have a mastery of principles, theory, practices, and processes necessary to produce quality software systems.
Mission:
The mission of department will focus on imparting excellent computer knowledge, research & development training to students which would enable them to harmonize theory with practice, concept with application and problem with solution.
Faculty:
The faculty of the department comprises of young and experienced members with academic excellence and industrial experience. All faculty members, in addition to their teaching responsibilities, are actively involved in research activities in their respective fields. The CIIT faculty encourages free and open discussion with students in and out of the classroom.
Labs:
A number of computer laboratories equipped with latest branded hardware and software have been established to impart quality instructions and conduct research. All laboratories are air conditioned and are supervised by qualified teaching faculty to assist students during the lab sessions.
Research:
Department of Management Sciences has established a Centre for Research in Management Sciences (CRMS) to facilitate faculty members and students to actively pursue their respective research areas. The rationale for the establishment of CRMS is based on the long standing need of undertaking high quality research in order to bridge the gap between industry and academia in Pakistan. The scope of activities includes:

- Databases and Operational Intelligence
- Web Semantics
- Communication Networks
- Intelligent Machines and Robotics
- Vision, Image& Graphics
Scope:-
The B.Sc (Hons) Degree in Business Studies is designed to impart internationally accredited education in the field of Business Studies. With 139 credits, this full-time programme consists of a number of core and elective courses which not only provide a theoretical background of business intricacies but also offer an opportunity for exposure to the actual business practices. Students may specialize in three manage¬ment disciplines – Marketing, Finance and Human Resource Manage¬ment.
The programme provides students with a thorough understanding in both the theoretical as well as the practical aspects of business and management. Students will be familiarized with a spectrum of key functional areas. Cutting edge knowledge will be imparted in strategic management, challenges faced by managers in the 21st century, business ethics and a host of other exciting subject areas. All students are required to study a rigorous curriculum validated by LUMS and will develop competencies in statistics, accounting and finance, economics and marketing.
The Lancaster-COMSATS dual degree covers a wide range of business and management
courses. Its overall objective is to enable students to understand, engage with, and form a reflective perspective on the roles and practices of management in businesses; to enable them to acquire appropriate levels of knowledge of key management decision-making perspectives, and of at least two management disciplines. Students will also obtain basic knowledge across a spectrum of key functional areas. The programme also enables students to develop a reflective outlook on issues relating to their potential future employability and career development in the field of business. It provides high expected returns in terms of professional and vocational relevance.
Because of diversity in options available to students the common learning goals as mentioned below highlights the individual levels of attainments beyond the common core that each Business Studies student will achieve. Such varied additional attainments will vary from student to student according to their choices.
Career Prospects:
The degree will equip graduates to work in the service, financial, accounting, hospitality, retailing, wholesaling and manufacturing industries, with specific focus on those who wish to work in, or operate, their own small businesses.
Programme Objectives and Outcomes:-
The DDP intends to give students the opportunity to earn a world class bach¬e¬lors degree in business and management in Pakistan, which would provide them a competitive edge in the job market after graduation and opens the door for them to easily pursue higher studies in the UK and other develop¬ed countries.
The DDP covers a wide range of business and manage¬ment courses. - To prepare students for a career in business or business-related fields and develop their capability to contribute to society at large.
- To enhance student’s lifelong learning skills, communication skills and personal development.
The Business Studies programme mainly consists of modules, which are mutually endorsed by CIIT and LU. During the four-year programme, students will:
- Cover four main functional business and management-related areas to, at least, an introductory level in the subject of Accounting, Finance, Economics, Marketing and Quantitative Methods and Statistics.
- Students are also expected to obtain a specialized know¬ledge and under-standing of subjects from at least two management functional disciplines, such as: Accounting & Finance, Econo¬mics, Manage¬ment Science, Marketing, Work and Technology.
Admission Criteria:-
- FA/F.Sc/A-Levels with minimum 60% marks
- IELTS score of at least 5.5 Band or higher (to be acquired within first year of study period)
- The students must be able to communicate well in English language (mandatory)
