In the contemporary environment of rapidly evolving global IT, the Department of Computer Science (CS) provides solid theoretical foundation by offering latest courses designed by leading experts.The department has achieved significant progress in the past eight years, and is now transforming itself by using research for indigenous innovation.
The department encourages researchers to track and further develop the theoretical & practical frontiers of computer science, adopt international research methods as well as localized cases, evolve useful conclusions and suggestions for solving practical problems, and publish their findings in local and international journals and conferences.

The BS Computer Science Programme of the CIIT Lahore has been awarded best category ‘W’ by National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) of Pakistan, whereas the BSc (Hons) in Computing is accredited by the Institute of Engineering and Technology, UK.

The mission of department is to provide excellent computer education, research & development training to students for productive career paths in industry and academia. The fundamental as well as applied computer science concepts are covered to help students develop skills to solve complex technological problems of modern life.
Faculty:
The faculty of the department comprises of young and experienced members with academic excellence and industrial experience. All faculty members, in addition to their teaching responsibilities, are actively involved in research activities in their respective fields. The CIIT faculty encourages free and open discussion in and out of the classroom.
Labs:
A number of computer laboratories equipped with latest branded hardware and software have been established to impart quality instructions and conduct research. All laboratories are air conditioned and are supervised by qualified teaching faculty to assist students during the lab sessions.

Research, is the key component of the department as faculty members and students are actively involved in their respective research areas. Research in the department is organized as a series of closely related following themes:

These research groups have produced papers in the international/national journals and conferences. The department also organizes a workshop once a year on Computing called “CIIT Workshop on Research in Computing (CWRC).”
